Facts About Bacterial Vaginosis
The Truth About Bacterial Vaginosis
By Alexis Bourdaine
Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) is a very uncomfortable but common infection that many women suffer from today. In most women, the complication goes unnoticed, and clears itself up. However, its bad news bears for the women that notice the symptoms. They can be very uncomfortable, embarrassing, and can be quite expensive if the bacterial vaginosis persists. If you aren't sure about the symptoms, here they are:
Foul odor (fish-like)
Thin, white or grayish discharge
Itching
Swelling
Burning
Painful Intercourse
The exact cause of bacterial vaginosis is unknown, but what we do know is what happens inside your vagina during and a few things that have been linked to contracting it. Keep an open mind about these activities, because your BV could have been caused by literally anything.
Over-washing
Douching
New soaps (antibacterial mainly) or detergents
Tight non-breathable undergarments
Multiple, or new sex partners
And the list goes on and on...
What happens inside your vagina during your bacterial vaginosis infection is an offset of the vagina flora, or your vagina's environment. You have good bacteria, lactobacilli, and bad bacteria, gardnerella, living inside your vagina, along with other various organisms. Don't be alarmed, they all peacefully co-exist as long as the ratio of good to bad stays the same.
When conditions change, such as your pH levels or bacteria levels, it can become more favorable for bad bacteria to flourish and overrun the flora. This new harsh environment is perfect for the growth of other harmful bacteria and organisms, and then your infection (BV) ensues.
There are two different treatment options: Doctors, or Natural, Holistic Medicines. Both are viable options, and will treat your Bacterial Vaginosis accordingly. But, a doctor will prescribe antibiotics creams or pills. These will kill the bad bacteria, along with the good bacteria. So the infection cannot continue, but it can return overtime because your immune system is down. Another problem with prescription antibiotics, is that you can actually contract a yeast infection as a side effect. Who wants to trade their BV for a yeast infection?? Not me!
Natural or Holistic medicines and methods follow the science behind your infection. They create a healthy and stable framework in your immune system, and give your body a chance to cure itself. This is great because it builds a strong defense against future attacks and not only that, you save TONS of money by not having to continuously go to the doctors office!
I struggled with bacterial vaginosis for 3 years. Doctors kept prescribing antibiotics, (clindamycin phosphate, tinidazole and metronidazole), and nothing seemed to work! It just kept coming back over and over again. I was so shocked when I found out that antibiotics actually weakened my body's natural defense against infections!
Don't be like me and struggle with bacterial vaginosis for years. Cure it now for good!
