Herbal Remedies For Urinary Tract and Kidney Infection

Natural Remedies For Urinary Tract and Kidney Infection
By Patricia C Jordan

A urinary tract infection is a bacterial infection of the urinary tract. It is caused by E Coli bacteria traveling from the urethra to the bladder. It is often painful and uncomfortable, but some people show no signs. There are two main types of urinary tract infections- lower tract and upper tract infections. An infection of the lower tract typically spreads to the urethra or the bladder.

The urethra is the tube that carriers urine from the bladder. When bacteria affects the urethra, it causes urethritis. When bacteria infects the bladder, it causes a bladder infection, also known as cystitis. When an infection of the upper tract spreads through the bloodstream into the kidney, its called pyelonephritis. This is a very serious condition. Note: If you think you have a kidney infection then you should contact your doctor immediately.

Look for these symptoms and signs if you think you have a UTI

- A persistent urge to urinate
- A burning sensation when you urinate
- Passing frequent, small drops of urine
- Cloudy, foul-smelling urine
- A feeling of shakiness and fatigue
- Cloudy, foul-smelling urine
- Blood in the urine

Your doctor will perform some tests to make sure you have an infection of your urinary tract and he or she will most likely prescribe antibiotics. Many people suffer from recurring UTIs when taking antibiotics, which leads to antibiotic dependence, as well as a weakened immune system.

Natural Remedies
Natural remedies and holistic methods of treatment can help to alleviate pain and discomfort, and also address the underlying issues that cause the infection. Better yet, natural remedies are safe, non-addictive, and cause no side effects.

Some of the most commonly recommended herbs are Agothosma betulina (Buchu), Arctostaphylos uva-ursi , Melissa officinalis (Lemon balm), Avena sativa, Hypericum perforatum (St. John's Wort), Vaccinium myrtillus (Billberry) and Echinacea angustifolia.
